Resume Builder

Fill in a form to generate a printable resume

When you're done editing, click "Print / Export PDF", and in the print dialog that opens, choose "Save as PDF" as the destination printer to export your resume. What you enter is auto-saved as a draft in your local browser, so an accidental refresh won't lose it — but clearing browser data or switching devices will. It's recommended to use "Export Backup" to save a JSON file once you're done editing.

About Resume Builder

The Resume Builder lets you fill in a form and see a formatted resume update live below it, then export a PDF or print it through your browser's print function. You can enter a name, contact info, job objective, summary, skill tags, education, work experience, project experience, awards and languages, upload a photo, and switch between 8 layouts and 5 colour themes. It is a layout tool. It does not write or polish your content for you, and it doesn't offer online applications or resume hosting. Your data stays in your own browser and is not stored on our servers.

How to use it

  1. A note at the top of the page explains the basics. The form opens pre-filled with sample content for 'John Smith'; replace it field by field with your own details.
  2. Under 'Layout Template' pick one of: Classic Single Column, Two Column (Left Sidebar), Two Column (Right Sidebar), Compact Single Column, Minimal Two Column, Photo-Focused Single Column, Timeline Layout or Card Layout. Clicking one also shows a small structure preview. Then choose a 'Color Theme': Classic Black, Business Blue, Deep Green, Muted Purple or Warm Orange. The theme only affects heading underlines and skill tags, not the body text.
  3. If you want a photo, click 'Upload Photo' under 'Photo (optional)' and choose an image file. Click 'Remove Photo' to take it off.
  4. Fill in 'Name', 'Contact Info', 'Job Objective (optional)' and 'Summary', then 'Skill Tags'. Separate skills with commas; Chinese or English commas both work.
  5. In the Education, Work Experience, Project Experience (optional), Awards (optional) and Languages (optional) sections, click the 'Add …' button to create an entry. Each entry has Move Up, Move Down and Delete buttons for reordering and removal.
  6. The resume preview below updates as you type. When you're happy, click 'Print / Export PDF' and choose 'Save as PDF' as the destination in your browser's print dialog. Only the resume itself is printed; the form is hidden.
  7. To keep several versions for different roles, click 'Save as New Resume' and name it, then load, rename or delete it later from 'My Resumes'. For a backup or a move to another device, use 'Export Backup' to download a JSON file and 'Import Backup' to restore it.

A usage scenario

Suppose you're applying for both front-end and product roles. Fill in the front-end version first and click 'Save as New Resume', naming it 'Front-End Role'. Then edit the job objective and summary, swap the skill tags for product-related ones, reorder the bullet descriptions in your experience, and save that as 'Product Manager Role'. When you apply, load the matching version from 'My Resumes' and export the PDF. Each version is just data in your browser, so switching roles doesn't mean re-doing the layout. No claims are made about interview rates or hiring results; the tool only helps you lay your content out neatly.

What it supports and where it stops

  • Exporting depends on your browser's print function. The tool does not generate a PDF file itself, so page size, margins and whether headers and footers appear are controlled by the print dialog. Turn off 'Headers and footers' there if they show up.
  • Content longer than one page is split by the browser. The page tries to avoid cutting a single entry in half, but the exact break can differ between browsers, so check the print preview before saving. The Compact Single Column layout uses tighter spacing to help fit more on one page.
  • There is no built-in wording help, template text or content check. The fields are fixed to those listed, and you cannot add custom sections or rename them.
  • An uploaded photo is automatically shrunk to at most 800 pixels on its longest side and stored as JPEG; there is no cropping tool, and layouts crop it to a fixed ratio or a circle. If the browser's storage still fills up, the page warns you that the draft or saved version was not kept; remove the photo and use Export Backup.
  • 'My Resumes' keeps at most 30 versions; beyond that the oldest are dropped.
  • Everything lives in your current browser's local storage. Clearing browser data, switching browsers or switching devices loses it, so use 'Export Backup' when you finish. 'Clear and Start Over' erases everything you are editing and cannot be undone.
  • 'Import Backup' only accepts a JSON file exported by this tool; anything else triggers 'This file could not be recognized. Please make sure it is a backup file exported from this tool.' Importing replaces what you are currently editing.
  • It lays out one resume at a time. There is no one-click language switch and no job-description matching.

FAQ: How do I get a PDF?

Click 'Print / Export PDF'. In the print dialog that opens, set the destination to 'Save as PDF', choose A4 or the paper size you need, and under more settings untick headers and footers if the page shows a URL or date. After saving, check the page breaks in your PDF viewer.

FAQ: Will I lose what I typed?

In the same browser, a draft is saved automatically about half a second after you stop typing, so an accidental refresh is fine. If you clear browser data, use a private window or switch devices, the draft is gone. Once your resume is final, click 'Export Backup' to save a JSON file and use 'Import Backup' to restore it when needed.

FAQ: How do the layouts differ?

Classic Single Column and Compact Single Column place everything top to bottom, with the compact one using tighter spacing. The two two-column layouts put the photo, skills and languages into a narrow column on the left or on the right, with the rest in the main column. Minimal Two Column, Photo-Focused Single Column, Timeline and Card are different visual styles; click through them and look at the structure preview before choosing. A clear, concise resume matters more than the layout, so pick what suits your field.

FAQ: Do I have to include a photo?

No. The photo is optional and no empty space is left if you skip it. Whether to include one depends on the country or company you are applying to; the tool simply lets you choose.

Privacy and processing

Filling in, laying out and printing the resume all happen in your browser. The code makes no network requests, so your name, contact details and photo are not sent to a server. The data is kept only in your browser's local storage (the draft and 'My Resumes'), and an exported backup is a file downloaded to your own computer. Because this information is personal, if you used a shared computer, click 'Clear and Start Over' and clear this site's data afterwards.
