Despite the name, the Time Zone Converter behaves as a world clock: it lists the current date, weekday and time in the cities you choose, so you can see at a glance what time it is on the other side. It reads your device's current clock and applies each city's time zone rules. Besides the current time, you can enter a specific date and time under 'Convert a specific time' (for example 'tomorrow 3 pm in Beijing'), choose the zone it belongs to, and see the equivalent time in every listed city. Each city also shows its offset from UTC, such as UTC+8.
How to use
- Open the page. Under 'Current time around the world' you'll see four cities by default: Beijing/Shanghai, New York, London and Tokyo. Each row shows the city name and its standard time zone identifier (for example Asia/Shanghai) on the left, and that place's current date, weekday and time on the right.
- To convert a specific time, use the 'Convert a specific time' section at the top: pick a date and time with the date-time input, then choose the zone that time belongs to in the drop-down beside it (Beijing/Shanghai by default). The drop-down lists every IANA time zone your browser supports (400+; the 13 common cities show friendly names), and the 'Search time zones…' box next to it filters the options by keyword (for example kolkata or Tokyo). If the browser cannot supply the full list, only the 13 common cities are offered. The heading below changes to 'Converted times' and each city shows the date, weekday and time at that same moment. Click 'Back to current time' to clear the input and return to the live view.
- A small label to the right of each city's time shows its UTC offset at that moment, such as UTC+8, UTC-4 or UTC+5:30 (half-hour zones like India's include the minutes); UTC itself reads UTC. Offsets change with daylight saving, and for a converted time the offset shown is the one in force at that moment.
- To add a city, click a button under 'Add a city'. The new city is appended to the end of the list. The 13 common cities are: Beijing/Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Dubai, London, Paris, Moscow, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Sydney and Auckland. For anywhere else use 'Add another time zone (up to 5, N added)': filter with the search box, pick a zone from the drop-down and click 'Add'. Once you reach 5 you must remove one before adding another.
- To remove a city, click the trash icon on the right side of its row. There's no confirmation; the city disappears immediately and returns to the 'Add a city' options.
- Unless you enter a specific time, the page refreshes every second, but the display only goes down to the minute, so the digits change only when the minute changes.
- Once all 13 common cities are in the list, the 'Add a city' section hides itself. Your list (including extra zones) is saved automatically in this browser and is still there next time.
A worked example
These results were computed with the same formatting method the page uses, for one fixed moment: 13 October 2026, 02:00 UTC. Beijing/Shanghai shows 10:00 on Tuesday the 13th; Tokyo is 11:00; Sydney is 13:00; London is 03:00 (still on summer time); and New York is 22:00 on Monday the 12th, meaning it is still the previous evening there. For the same UTC time on 13 January 2026, Beijing remains 10:00, London becomes 02:00 and New York becomes 21:00. The gap between the same pair of cities changes during the year, which is where relying on the time zone database beats mental arithmetic.
Supported range and known limits
- 'Add a city' offers only the 13 common cities; anywhere else is added through 'Add another time zone' by IANA identifier, up to 5, with no city-name search (friendly names exist only for the 13).
- 'Convert a specific time' accepts any IANA time zone as the source zone (provided the browser exposes the full list; otherwise only the 13 common cities), and the input is accurate to the minute. If the local time you enter falls in the hour skipped or repeated at a daylight saving changeover, the result is just one reasonable reading, so double-check such moments.
- Offsets are shown relative to UTC only, not directly between two cities.
- The time comes from your device's system clock. If your computer's clock is wrong, every city shown will be off by the same amount.
- Daylight saving is handled by the browser's built-in time zone database, with no manual switch. If your device or browser has outdated time zone data, a recent rule change in some region might not be reflected.
- Your list is saved in the browser's local storage; clearing site data, using a private window or switching browser restores the default four.
FAQ: Why is the date in New York a day behind Beijing?
New York is on the other side of the world, so Beijing's morning is the previous evening in New York. The page shows the date and weekday as well as the time so you don't overlook this when planning calls or meetings.
FAQ: Is daylight saving calculated correctly?
The page uses the browser's built-in internationalization API (Intl) with IANA time zone identifiers, so the start and end of summer time come from that database rather than from offsets hard-coded in the tool. Cities such as London, New York and Sydney shift automatically on their changeover days. Note that the southern hemisphere's daylight saving runs in the opposite season, so the gap between Sydney and northern cities changes twice a year.
FAQ: Can I use it to plan a meeting?
Yes. Add the other person's city, then enter your meeting time under 'Convert a specific time' and choose your own city; you will see what time it is there and whether it falls on another date. Daylight saving is handled by the browser's database for that exact date, but still double-check before you confirm.
FAQ: Why do the digits not change every second?
The page updates every second, but the format shows only hours and minutes, so what you see changes once a minute. That's the display precision by design, not a freeze.
Privacy and processing
According to the code, the page uses only your browser's local clock and time zone database. It makes no network requests and doesn't upload the cities you pick or your location.
